봉준호 감독이 영화 ‘옥자’와 관련된 새로운 논란에 입을 열었다.

Bong Jun-Ho, a director of 'Okja' opened his mouth on new controversy related with the movie.

봉준호 감독은 28일 서울 종로구 삼청동 한 카페에서 진행된 영화 ‘옥자’ 관련 인터뷰에서 ‘옥자’의 단관 개봉관 확보 이후로 독립영화가 위협 받는다는 반응에 대해 솔직한 심정을 밝혔다.

On 28th June, he revealed his thoughts frankly during the interview for the movie, 'Okja' against the response that screening of independence movie is endangered by 'Okja' after its occupation of 'non-multiplex' theater. This interview was taken placed at a cafe in Samchung-dong, Jongno-gu. 

이날 봉 감독은 “칸 논란에서도 프랑스 법을 예측하지 못했듯이 이번에도 상황이 흘러 흘러 가고 있다”고 입을 열었다. 

Mr.Bong opened his mouth saying that "This time the situation also flows in unexpected way just like we did not expect which French law is related with the Cannes Film Festival issue."

이어 “다양성 영화가 몇 개이고 상황이 어떤지 차분히 짚어봐야 하겠다. 내가 듣기로는 NEW에서 그런 상황을 미리 배려를 한 것으로 알고 있다”며 “상영 횟수도 분산된 것으로 알고 있다”고 말했다.

And he said additionally, "I need to think over calmly how many films on diversity are related and what the current situation is. As far as I heard, our distributor, NEW has cared this kind of situation in advance and the number of screening by our movie is dispersed."

여기에 그는 “‘옥자’로 인한 여러가지 상황들은 나도, 여러분들도 처음 겪는 거다. 내일(29일)이 개봉인데, 칸 이후 한달 반 동안 정말 많은 과정이 있었다. 재개봉하는 느낌까지 든다”고 상황을 짚었다.
Moreover, he tried to analyse current situation. "You as well as I are experiencing these kinds of situation for the first time related with 'Okja'. There are so many procedures that I have been through for one and half month after Cannes. I feel like this movie is re-released."

이와 함께 “영화는 두 시간동안 체험하는 것이지 않느냐. 사운드를 듣고 이미지를 보는 건데. 내일부터는 영화를 체험할 수 있을 것이다. 그 체험 이후 영화에 대한 더 많은 얘기를 할 수 있겠다. 지금까지는 영화와 상관없는 둘러싼 유통 얘기를 무성하게 해 왔는데, ‘그게 이 영화의 팔자려니’ 한다. 내가 이렇게 멘탈이 강했구나 싶었다”고 ‘옥자’를 논란이 아닌, 영화 자체로 평가해주길 바랐다.

In addition to this, he emphasized, "As you know, a movie is two-hour experiences which means hearing sounds and seeing images. From tomorrow, you can experience this movie. After that we can talk more about the movie. Until now I have been talking about distribution subjects that are not related with the movie itself, which I regard as 'the destiny of this movie.' I came to think that, 'Do I really have this kind of strong mentality?'" hoping 'Okja' to be determined by the movie itself rather than related issues.

한편 ‘옥자’는 비밀을 간직한 채 태어난 거대한 동물 옥자와 강원도 산골에서 함께 자란 미자(안서현)의 이야기를 그린 영화로, 어느 날 가족과 같은 옥자가 사라지자 미자는 필사적으로 옥자를 찾아 헤매며 예상치 못한 사건에 휘말리게 되는 과정을 다루는 작품. 29일 오전 0시 넷플릭스에서 190개국 전 세계 공개되며, 국내 극장가에서도 개봉한다. 

Meanwhile, 'Okja' is the movie which describes the story between huge animal, Okja which was born with secrets and Mija(Ahn Seo-Hyun) who is grown up together with that creature in the isolated area of Kangwon-do, South Korea. And this movie deals with the procedures how Mija is getting involved with unexpected events, searching for Okja desperately everywhere that was regarded as one of the family members as soon as it has disappeared one day. This movie will be released via Netflix on 0:00 a.m. 29th over 190 countries worldwide and also in local theaters.
